‘버섯은 생물도 동물도 아닌 그 어떤 중간 영역에 존재하는 생명체라고 해요. 땅속의 보이지 않는 세계에서 서로 연결해 가며 자연이 소통할 수 있도록 도와주죠. 버섯의 밝혀지지 않은 신비한 잠재력과 은밀하게 뻗어가는 자유로운 확장성에서 저의 상상력은 시작되었어요.’

‘Mushrooms are neither plants nor animals, existing in their own unique in-between realm, helping nature to communicate with each other in the invisible world below the ground. And my imagination is fuelled by their undiscovered mysterious potential and free expansion.‘

솟솟리버스 제주, 코오롱 스포츠 

 <조각 모아, 봄>에서는 코오롱스포츠의 남은 재고의 옷들과 각양각색의 부자재들, 유행이 지나 그 가치를 잃어버리고 잠들어 있던 옷들이 한데 모여 제주의 한라봉, 콜라비, 구좌 당근으로 재탄생 됩니다. 작품에 큰 영감을 준 이 세 가지 작물의 공통점은 겨울나기를 하고 봄에 수확된다는 것입니다. 

추운 겨울을 버텨내고 생명의 시작인 봄에 그 모습을 나타낸다는 의미로 옷의 쓰임이 없어진 조각들을 모아 새로운 형상으로 재탄생한 작품들과 같습니다.  

In <Pieces Together, Spring>, leftover garments from Kolon Sport—along with a variety of materials and once-forgotten pieces that had lost their value over time—are brought together and reimagined as Jeju’s hallabong oranges, kohlrabi, and Gujwa carrots. These three crops, which inspired the work, share a common trait: they endure the winter and are harvested in the spring.

Much like these crops that withstand the cold and emerge in spring—the season of new beginnings—the work transforms discarded fragments of clothing into new forms, giving them renewed life.
